The Book Of Mormon

Uihlein Hall at Marcus Center For The Performing Arts

Wisconsin, you’re in for the finest kind of surprise as The Book of Mormon, one of Broadway’s wittiest, cleverest, and most amusing plays is arriving and performing in Milwaukee on Tuesday 25th February 2025 at the one and only Uihlein Hall at Marcus Center For The Performing Arts! Take part in a musical viewing that makes you laugh and love classical theatre, full of unrestrained and amusing twists.

Produced from a collaboration of the creators of the famous comedy TV show South Park and the play Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon features two Latter-day Saints (LDS) missionaries, Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, as they try to convert local villagers in Uganda. In the same fashion to their previous productions, the musical takes the serious concept of religion and satirizes it through both writing and music.

As Ben Brantley of The New York Times states, just like South Park, it is “also blasphemous, scurrilous and more foul-mouthed than David Mamet on a blue streak. But trust me when I tell you that its heart is as pure as that of a Rodgers and Hammerstein show”.

Make the most out of your chance to be one of the lucky ones and get a seat to this impressive show, before they're all gone!

Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham are two missionaries of the Mormons tasked with a mission to a remote Ugandan village. Their goal is to convert the villagers to their faith, but they realize upon their arrival that their job is more demanding than they had realized, given the great deal of local issues that the villagers are against such as a local warlord, an HIV/AIDS epidemic, and poverty among others. The pair then gradually realize that they must employ more unusual ways to succeed in their mission than the traditional method that they know.

It is in this duo's unique dynamic where the performance of The Book of Mormon shines – allowing the subject matter of religion to be blasphemed and injected with comedy, showtunes, and a bit of rude language, yet still remaining acceptable to theatre fans. Since its premiere in 2011, the The Book of Mormon has been received positively despite its manner of challenging religious belief. The church itself supported the musical, buying ads and releasing slogans specifically that stated: “You’ve seen the play, now read the book.” In its West End performances, the repeatedly sold-out shows were prime examples of The Book of Mormon’s success. Though most viewers were already drawn in given the content and theme of the play, according to The Guardian, it was even to their shock that “suddenly you realize you’re in for not just humour but a a thought provoking tale that just keeps on getting better.” The musical’s run in Australia met with a similar positive reception, with the Sydney Morning Herald even declaring that the Book of Mormon is a “dynamite production of a show that has consistently been called the funniest Broadway musical of all time.”

What comes as no surprise however is that due to its success, The Book of Mormon’s several productions worldwide have earned it nine Tony Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Circle Critics awards, four Olivier Awards, and two Helpmann Awards.

This upbeat, happy, and totally silly show continues its tour in Wisconsin. Milwaukee’s best theatre venue, Uihlein Hall at Marcus Center For The Performing Arts, with its spacious seating capacity, impeccable lighting, and masterful sound system will be hosting this February’s performance of The Book of Mormon.
