Cirque Kalabante – Afrique en Cirque at Uihlein Hall

The MPAC extends the warmest welcome to a high-flying Guinean spectacle brought to you by visionary artist Yamoussa Bangoura. For its tenth performance this year, Cirque Kalabanté will visit the Uihlein Hall on Wednesday, January 29, to present Afrique en Cirque, a phenomenal production celebrating African talent in dance, music, and acrobatics. With 42 shows officially announced, the company sets forth on an international tour, lighting stages in the United States and Canada, plus a two-week jaunt at the Gluttony Festival in Australia.

Follow the invigorating beat of the drums to a land rich in culture and art. Cirque Kalabanté’s Afrique en Cirque portrays a contemporary Africa with vibrant set pieces and authentic costumes donned by performers prancing to the rhythm of traditional Guinean instruments. Every scene pops joyously from soulful kora and Afro-Jazz melodies, each dance routine an homage to the youthful strength and agility of the cirque’s dancers. Look up, and you will see airborne feats of bravery from acrobats boldly defying gravity while human pyramids tower over crowds like mountainous monuments. Adding a layer of mystique, contortionists ply their bodies into unbelievable shapes that all will gasp at in jaw-dropping marvel.
